[NEWS: January 9, 2008] Local Search Revelations
Quotes from Search Engine Watch: Survey respondents were asked which resources they considered when searching for a local business to make a purchase. The assumption in this instance is that all research has been concluded and a purchase decision has been made.
Seventy-three percent of those surveyed said they used a search engine. Sixty-five percent said they used (print) yellow pages directories and 33 percent said they used white pages directories. Fifty percent used an Internet yellow pages directory.
Newspapers (44 percent) television (29 percent) and direct mail (20 percent) were also mentioned as resources. Oddly enough, wildly popular consumer review sites were only mentioned by 18 percent of those surveyed. (Consumer survey was conducted by Nielsen/Netratings and WebVisibile Inc.)
Bill Gates predicts Print Yellow Pages to be Dead in 5 Years
[NEWS: MAY 10, 2007] Bill Gates: Print Yellow Pages Will be Dead in Five Years
Quotes from The Seattle Times: The traditional Yellow Pages are doomed as voice-activated Internet searches combined with on-screen interfaces on smart mobile devices get better and proliferate, Gates said.
The company's recent acquisition of voice-technology provider TellMe is accelerating the trend. "When you say something like plumber the presentation you get will be far better than what you get in the Yellow Pages," Gates said.
"After all, we know your location and so we can cluster [results] around that. Yellow Page usage amongst people in their, say below 50, will drop to near zero over the next five years."
This is certainly something to consider if you have a significant monthly expense for your local printed yellow pages ad.
Online Yellow Pages are now being used more often by more people compared to old annual printed Yellow Page directory
[NEWS: OCTOBER 9, 2006] IYP Searches Grow In Local Category
Internet Yellow Pages (IYP) searches grew 46 percent in the past year, which means a 43 percent local search increase across the Web.
In July (2006), 68 million Internet users in the U.S. conducted searches at IYP sites. These searches represent a 46 percent increase over the same month last year.
"Growth in IYP and local search has mainly been incremental," said Serge Matta, VP of marketing solutions at ComScore. "Studies have shown that the usage of print and the Internet is very complimentary. Nearly all print YP usage is for products and services located within a close proximity, whereas a good portion of IYP and local search usage is for searches outside the local market."
60 million people in USA now regularly use Internet Yellow Pages (IYP) to locate the products and services they need. Research indicates that Internet Yellow Pages are now being used more often as compared to printed yellow pages. Fortunately, reaching all these people online is comparatively inexpensive and may even dramatically improve your overall yellow page advertising results. You can simply reduce your printed yellow page directory ad cost to more than cover your ad here.
There are many Internet Yellow Page publishers, but they vary widely in traffic, affiliations, features and cost. You want to place your advertising in the directories most relevant to your regional area, as opposed being in all or most national ones. Some national online yellow page directories are a waste of money. Spending your advertising dollars in your own regional area helps give you the greatest likelihood of reaching targeted customers. Online Yellow Pages is a marketing mega-trend!

advertised soap, shaves with an advertised razor, sits down and drinks advertised tea or coffee,

advertise, saying "Advertising doesn't pay". But when his business fails, he finally advertises:
